Getting the first set of Impressions

So I went back into the dentists office today and got my first set of dental impressions done. It only took about ten minutes in total and was by far the easiest dentist apt. that I have ever been to. The hygienist just fitted my mouth with some metal trays, then told me to lay back, listen and let her do all the work. She was really nice and in good spirits which made me feel a little more comfortable as well. After she mixed this goopy stuff in a bowl for a minute she poured it into the first tray, it was for the top teeth she told me just to relax and that it would only take about a minute or so to harden. It wasn't bad at all really, although I did think I was going to gag at first, haha, but thankfully I didn't.... The bottom was pretty much the same deal, mixing, pouring, setting but I found it more uncomfortable than the top, the metal was pushing on my back gum it didn't "hurt" but it really didn't tickle either :) So that was that, a little mouth wash and she was gone. She didn't even take the thing off that they put around your neck. A little impersonal?? I'd say....

The dentists office will call me in a few days to come back in for the next stage of this agonizing experience. I just cant wait to get it over

  1. How are you doing? I'm 50 now but my long, slow decent into teeth hell started when I was 20. I had all my teeth out on April 9th of this year in prep for implants. I don't have my permanent dentures yet. It's a long process.

Are you getting implants? When are you having all your teeth removed?

  2. The zinc in many of the most popular brands of denture cream, like Poligrip and Fixodent contain excessive levels of zinc. With millions of seniors and denture wearers using these products on a daily basis, they risk serious health side effects.

Excessive levels of zinc can and have caused paralysis, muscle weakness, loss of feeling and other neurological disorders.

  3. How is your journey coming along? I'm thinking about full upper dentures, myself. I'll be 34 next month...I am so tired of being in pain and losing teeth. I'd like to smile again. =/

  4. I almost laugh before during my dental impression. I thought of having this big gum stuck on my mouth. It tastes like rubber, and when it hardens I thought at first that my teeth will follow. Well, my dentist in St Petersburg Fl laughed after i told him all those imaginary things i had during the impression. Impressions are just a start to a long journey on the dental chair. All good hopes to you.

  5. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to get a complete set of dentures in Mesa AZ before I was thirty. Hopefully it all goes well and you can have a proud and confident smile!

  6. Thanks for sharing your story. I need dentures, but have not been brave enough to make the call to my local calgary denture clinic. Your story helped give me some confidence, and I think I will call today to make an appointment.

  7. I've been thinking that my grandpa should start looking into getting some dentures in Colorado Springs. He's fairly nervous about it but it would be much better than no teeth. How much are they?

  11. Wow. That's a rough thing to go through so young, but you seem to be keeping in good spirits about it. Thanks for blogging about your experience-- it's very reassuring to read how things turned out for someone else. I'll be checking back for an update!

  12. That does not sound like it was pleasant. We're about to get dentures for my grandfather, so I've been doing research. Is there any specific kind of liquid you need to sit them in at night, or is it just water? http://www.parsleydmd.com/template.jsp?doc=tonyparsley&c=Advanced+Services&wiz=0&page=Advanced+Services

  14. I think it's great that you're doing something to get your teeth to a god point. I have had a lot of friends in recent years that have had to get dentures early just like you. Most of them haven't been very positive at all about it. I like reading your story and thinking about how I might react in the same scenario.

  15. I think it's a good idea to get dentures. There really is no reason not to. They are great if your own teeth haven't been healthy.

  16. I remember when my uncle had to get dentures. he was telling us about the trays they put in your mouth to get the size and shape of your mouth. It is interesting how they can get an accurate measurement just by doing that. I would have thought they use some sort of model denture that you put in your mouth and adjust it accordingly.

  17. We would like an update on how it went with your dentures! I Have had to have molds taken of my teeth as well. I would agree that it is not a pleasant experience, but it's not the worst thing that can happen in the dentist's chair. Let us know how the rest of the process went, please!

  18. Have you got your dentures yet? My teeth are in the same condition as yours and I'm looking of taking a similar step. I just want to have a confident smile when I go out. I really think that it would boost my confidence to have a full set of dentures. http://www.kingswaydentureclinic.ca/en/

  19. Oh I am definitely like you with the gag reflex feelings. I need dental implants and I am a bit nervous as far as the gagging goes. It might be time to practice my breathing and meditation techniques. If I can get through the impressions part, the rest will be a cake walk.

  20. Wow, that sounds like a short appointment for such a big step. My dad has been looking for a long time now to get dentures. He's just nervous about the procedure. However, seeing how a whole set for you only took ten minutes, maybe he can a sense of ease thinking about it. http://www.bovizdentureclinic.com/en/
